The Dufour 1800 is a 25 ft 4-berth yacht. It has a fractional rig, with a choice of lifting, shallow, standard or deep fin keels. The 1800 refers to the displacement of 1800 Kg.
Accommodation comprises of a V-berth forward, with two storage areas below the cushions and long side shelves. The heads (to port) and a hand basin (to starboard) is behind this, between two bulkheads. The cabin has a berth each side. The table, which is stored beneath the starboard berth, is a very clever design. Being removable, the cabin is normally clear of obstructions. When the table is needed, it mounts in three possible positions, fore and aft, attached to the inner bulkhead or either from port or starboard attached to the outer seat backs, when part of the split cushions are removed. It can also be mounted in the cockpit, with the bottom of the washboards in place.
The rear bulkhead supports the chart table to port. This is half chart size and has an acrylic sheet over it to keep charts dry. The lift-off top covers a large storage space.
To starboard, the boats were built with a two-burner cooker, with the gas bottle attached beneath, together with a basin and a cool box. Many have now been rebuilt with a two-burner cooker and the cool box removed. There is adequate storage space behind the cooker. On Aries the gas bottles are stored in a box fixed at the rear of the cockpit
The space below the cabin berths is lined, giving a large amount of storage space. There is also a lot of storage behind the berth seat back panels.
In the cockpit there are deep lockers each side, with the batteries mounted in them. For the inboard version, the fuel tank is mounted to the rear on the starboard side below the seat. The engine controls are mounted on the port side of the cockpit.
Boats were supplied with a number of engine options, both internal (7hp) and external (9-12hp). The original engines on many boats have been replaced, with a Beta 10 being suitable for an 1800..
Being designed for CHS, the 1800 performs very well when racing, as well as having excellence performance as a cruiser.
