8th and 9th May 2010Ipswich Marina visit -
It was a miserable morning when we woke up on the boat Saturday morning. Only 8C was expected and rain poured down so with a forecast of NE 5-6 occ 7 (straight in the direction we wanted to go) we decided that our second East Coast meet of the year we would abandon the boat and head off by car to Ipswich!
Two brave souls sailed up to Ipswich Haven Marina and one gave up and returned home. So well done to Ian from Tin Wis and Scott of Thistle Dhu!
The Dufour Agent Burton Waters were having an open day and they welcomed us all and we consumed the very much appreciated hot drinks to warm ourselves up.
It was a great opportunity to spend some time looking over some of the Dufours on display. There was quite a lot of dreaming going on as we inspected the boats inside and out. Maybe the 455 is just a little too big for us!
The evening started quite early at the delightful Ipswich Haven YC with Giles from Burton Waters helping us to get some warmth on the inside. There were 26 of us sitting down for the excellent barbeque, although it was quite a cool evening. It was overall a very jolly evening and many tales were exchanged (we could not quite believe all Giles' experiences though!)
On Sunday most folks headed off in various directions all looking forward to some better weather for the next event on 26th June at Marconi Sailing Club.
Our thanks go to all the staff of Burton Waters for their generous hospitality and allowing us to take over their office for the day!

Saturday 26th June 2010
Marconi Sailing Club, River Blackwater.  Barbeque

Our mid summer meet and barbeque on the week end of 26th June was a great success. It was just a pity that it was not as well supported as hoped, as the weather was fantastic.
The visitors Lizzie, Mycroft and Thistle Dhu all arrived around High Water and took moorings at Marconi Sailing Club. Unfortunately quite a strong Easterly wind piped up and this meant an uncomfortable couple of hours was experienced in the wind over tide situation. Fortunately this calmed down and we all went ashore on a warm balmy summers evening for liquid refreshment before lighting up the barbeque. In all there were 13 of us there to sit down to eat (and drink!) as Madelaine and Fintan had arrived by car. We were able to sit outside in the marquee until after the sun went down before retiring into the warmth inside to the bar.
It was certainly an entertaining evening with some lively chatter all made the better by listening to newcomer Alan Brown talk about his disco experiences!
Mycroft had an early start and left before the rest of us had surfaced, as he had to take the last of the ebb out to the Wallet Spitway to enable him to get the flood back to The Medway. Well done to you for making such a big effort as this had meant two mornings of early starts for them.
Sunday was hot and sunny with a light wind to start the day. Some swimming activity was noted off the stern of Thistle Dhu, an invigorating start to the day I am sure! By mid morning we were left on our own and enjoyed a pleasant sail down the Blackwater and back – just a pity the fresher Southerly wind had not come in sooner to help everyone sail home.
Many thanks to those that made the effort to come and we all have pleasant memories of a most enjoyable evening.
