Hi. I do agree with the other comments but I would go as far as saying make it so short that you are lifting the buoy slightly. That can cause a bit of noise if the mooring chain is loose inside the buoy but it’s more secure and stops the mooring touching the hill. Using two fairleads will not allow any twisting if you have it nice and short.
If you have a very vertical bow use a flat fender wrapped round the bow. That will protect your gel coat.
