Reply To: 3rd reef in 40P – How to?

hello peter – there should be a line in your boom for pulling down the leech crinkle in your sail. there should be 4 lines in the boom 3 for reefs 1 for outhall. to rig a 3rd reef you either need to go to the mast and put the reefing cringie on the hook, or rig a third line back to the cockpit – to have it single put isn’t possible unless the boat has been provided with the mechanics. I use the cunningham line with a hook. to tell the truth I’ve never had to use a 3rd reef in 50 years, but then I’ve not been further than ireland or france. I always think staying in harbour if the forecast’s bad is the best 3rd reef! dave ‘aurilla’ D39 integral
