Hi, we have a raymarine unit which is the same as all the other instruments. It’s a motor unit which is fitted in the aft locker with a cut out in the bulkhead and a another through to the steering assembly for the gear drive. The compass is fitted under the platform behind the wheel. I’d guess it’s a bit of a task to retrofit but am happy to get you some photos when I am next aboard if you would like. Of course there may be different systems available now.
