    Thanks anyway – worth a try – I have posted previously about that lifting keel without any enlightenment. Will try and fashion something to raise/lower it- probably a mainsheet-like pulley set-up on the mast.

    I have a similar lump of iron (but with a hollow centre for the liftable blade) encapsulated in fibreglass and likewise all the keels bolts encapsulated.

    I may have to use the boat with the extendable part of the keel always down, or always up – I believe (from a google search) in general when blade down the weight does not contribute much to stability (lowers the centre of gravity a little but not by much) but the extra keel depth just gives better sailing to wind which I am sure I can manage without.
