Reference your query regarding vang/rod kicker I did that very thing, replaced the rope vang with a rod kicker that is.
I used Martin Leaning Rigging (in Port Solent) who supplied a suitably sized Selden kicker and machined a small modification (bespoke bracket) for a reasonable price.
A good job and very effective.
