You don’t specify where your boat is kept but it it’s in the UK or Republic of Ireland the best thing you could do would be to contact the nearest RNLI Station and ask to talk with their Water Safety Team. They would then be able to arrange an Advice Onboard visit where you could discuss this, and any other safety related questions you may have, and benefit from the teams knowledge, experience and advice.
