We had exactly the same problem. It was the sender unit in the tank . It had a broken wire . We used a short length of copper wire and soldered in place of the broken bit . Hey presto it now works ! Just be careful when you replace the sender to make sure it is sealed, otherwise you will have diesel leaking with full tank and seaway.
