Just for the record, I removed the plastic cover in the cockpit locker that houses the throttle mechanism and this is what is inside.
I cleaned everything with PlusGas and oiled the moving parts with light oil (3in1). The throttle has always been a bit clunky but the button now pops put when the level is neutralised and the whole movement quite a bit smoother.
The cover is just secured with mastic which is easy enough to cut through for access purposes but makes ongoing maintenance a bit awkward.
I think it will be fine for now but the operating mechanism and cables are still available as genuine Volvo parts from amongst others FYB Marine.
