I tie mine around the boom and through the 1st reef attachment eye on the bottom of the boom. I reckon this is far enough aft to avoid bending/folding the boom in two in the event of an accidental gybe in strong winds. The reefing eye can slide along the boom, but I have placed a screw in the track to prevent it from sliding forward, this screw is there for reefing purposes, but also helps with the preventer. You could attach a new eye at the end of the boom specifically for the purpose of a attaching a gybe preventer. Like other have suggested, it goes to the forward cleat and then runs back to the aft cleat.
