Hello Kevin,
You are absolutely right my solution is not meant nor fit for heavy and blue water circumstances. I am a coastal sailor and when circumstances are such that the boom might touch water I take down the mainsail completely and only keep a adequat foresail
My solution however I find very fit and convenient most of the time in the typical situations downwind when the boat roles on the swell and the mainsail and boom lose the wind pressure and therfor slams continously. My solution in the 2:1 format avoids elongation and does not require any long lines on the boom nor foredeck and side decks that get in the way or under your feet.
