I’ve always thought the rear liferaft locker was a good design on the 385. It is accessed from the cockpit and not the transom. Yes you do have to release a catch and remove the cover but I’ve a feeling if you need to get it out you will easily find the strength to lift it! The alternative for a valise is one of the 2 cockpit lockers. We keep a six person valise in ours for coastal and cross (English) channel sailing. We keep it on a draining mat to avoid sitting in any water or dirt that naturally accumulates in that locker and alongside additional flares in a waterproof container.
