While I can’t contribute any solution to the substantive question, could I suggest that you use the camera on your phone, perhaps switched to “selfie” mode, to gain information in difficult-to-access areas. Getting trapped head-down in a locker could have tragic consequences if your boat was in a less busy part of the marina or boatyard.
