Had a similar problem on anVOLVO PENTA MD 2020, ended up I replaced the key switch unit, ( pretty easy and they wear out)had to do it twice while I owned the boat. New boat has push button set up, in my opinion a more reliable option, but maybe not as secure if theft is an issue where you store your boat.
